The Paris Opera House (Opera Garnier)
See the sumptuous interior decoration of the Opera House, the splendid ballroom, the grand stairway designed to be a theatre for the audience, and Chagall's beautiful ceiling in the auditorium (sometimes closed). Masterpieces at the The Rodin Museum
Rodin's career was beset by controversy and disappointment, but he produced iconic and ground breaking work. Learn about his life and enjoy his work at this exceptional museum where the sculptures are beautifully displayed in attractive gardens. We see the sculptor's early works, and hear of his struggle to get accepted: he was refused three times when he applied to study at the famous Beaux Arts school. The collection of sculptures displayed in the house and gardens includes The Kiss, The Thinker, The Gates of Hell, Balzac, and The Burghers of Calais. We learn why his works were considered unconventional in their day and why they are now seen as the forerunners of modern sculpture.

Carnavalet Museum - The Museum of the history of Paris
Personalities, history and the architecture of Paris told through the collection in this large museum housed in an imposing mansion in the Marais district. We will see : Archeological rooms showing some of the most ancient artifacts from the founding of Paris ,fascinating old models of the city, lovely views of old Paris, superb period rooms and furniture. The collection includes a complete Art Nouveau jeweller’s shop, some examples of charming old-fashioned shop signs, whole panelled rooms saved from buildings which were demolished during the rebuilding of Paris, the history of the French Revolution.

The Cluny Museum of Medieval Art is housed in an authentic medieval mansion, once the town house of the Abbots of Cluny in Burgundy, and includes a marvellous private chapel built for the abbot in the ornate flamboyant style, and a vast room which dates back to Roman times and which was the cold room of the Roman baths. The Museum has a superb collection of tapestries, furniture, ivories, silver and gold objects, paintings, sculptures and elaborately carved altarpieces. Of particular interest are the statues of the kings from the facade of Notre Dame which were removed at the Revolution and discovered by chance in the 20thC, some exquisite examples of medieval stained glass which can be seen up close, and of exceptional importance the world famous tapestries The Lady and the Unicorn. Learn the secrets and symbolism of this beautiful work. You will hear stories of Roman and medieval Paris, of art and of everyday life in these times.

The Gothic Basilica of St Denis with the tombs of the Kings of France
This church is one of the most interesting and splendid in the Paris Region. St Denis was the first bishop of Paris and a famous legend told how he ran here with his head after having been executed. An important abbey grew up where he was buried, and the present beautiful example of medieval architecture (its chancel is the earliest gothic structure to be built in France) was built for the powerful Abbot Suger, who included his portrait in the decoration of the church. The French royal family adopted St Denis as their patron and they were almost all buried here over the centuries. We can enjoy the superb gothic architecture and the magnificent tombs of the Kings and Queens which range from elegant medieval sculptures, splendid Renaissance edifices and the poignant memorial to Marie Antoinette and her ill-fated son, Louis XVII.
